OAKLAND -- Bill Almon's 2-run triple highlighted a 4-run 4th inning for the White Sox, leading to a 5-2 victory. Davey Lopes (3) started the game scoring in the 2nd with a 2-run clout for the Athletics. LaMarr Hoyt (5-5) got the CG win for Chicago. Pat Underwood (2-5) took the loss for Oakland after replacing starter Brian Kingman in the 1st. Kingman left with shoulder stiffness, apparently from not being warmed up completely. He is not expected to miss his next start.

OAKLAND -- Steve Kemp (3 hits) doubled twice and drove in 4 runs in a 6-1 White Sox victory. Sox hurlers Britt Burns (7-4) and Salome Barojas (9) gave up just 5 hits and struck out 10 A's batters between them. Cliff Johnson (5) nailed Oakland's only run with a solo shot in the 6th. Rick Langford (5-9) threw 144 pitches in a CG loss.

OAKLAND -- Tony Armas (13,14) homered twice and drove in 4 runs for the A's. His second tater was a 3-run shot in the 9th pulling Oakland to a 1-run deficit, 7-6. But alas, Barojas (10) was able to record the 27th out to pick up the very shaky save for Steve Trout (4-9) and preserve the road sweep for Chicago. Tony Bernazard (5) highlighted a 5-run 2nd for the ChiSox with a 3-run bomb. Mike Norris (4-9) started and lost for Oakland, which has now lost 8 straight.

Angels Reach Unholy Levels with Sweep of ChiSox
June 10, 1982
CHICAGO -- Make it 10 in a row for the Angels as they pound the hometown White Sox 10-1 in the opener of this 4-game set. Doug DeCinces (16) drove in 4 runs with 3 hits, including a 2-run bomb. Fred Lynn also collected 3 hits and Reggie, Reggie drove in 3 with 2 hits. Steve Renko (4-1) scattered 9 hits over 7.1 IP for the win. Britt Burns (6-4) was sent to the showers after 4 IP.
June 11, 1982
CHICAGO -- The Angels are singing every note to near perfection. Bruce Kison and Doug Corbett (1-1) combined on a 5-hit shutout as California blanked Chicago 3-0. Actually, Kison allowed all 5 hits in 5.2 IP. Corbett was nearly perfect in his 3.1. A pair of Sox errors led to two runs scored in the Halos 7th with Lynn and DeCinces knocking in runs. Bobby Grich (7) blasted a solo HR in the 8th off Richard Dotson (4-6).
June 12, 1982
CHICAGO -- Don Baylor went 5-6 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored to lead the Halos to a 9-5 win, their 12th consecutive. I'm starting to wonder how this team didn't win the pennant. Ken Forsch (8-4) went the distance for the win. Bob Boone chipped in 3 hits.
June 13, 1982
CHICAGO -- The Angels are other-worldly!! They just won their 13th straight game on June 13. Geoff Zahn (7-4) pitched a CG, yielding just 1 run on 4 hits for a 4-1 win. Five different Halos hitters contributed 2 hits apiece with Lynn driving in 2. Sixty games into the season, the Angels are playing at a .650 clip. Break 'em up!

'Spos take 2 of 3 from Cubbies thanks to "Marshall Tito" !

| 6 for 6 to boost avg to .420 |
The series opener was one of the wildest games ever. The lead changed hands 9 times. Chicago headed into the bottom of the 9th up by 1 with Willie Hernandez on the mound looking for the save. Cromartie led off with a cheap flyout to right. Speier and PH Jerry White singled putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Raines grounded back to the box for out number 2. Up stepped Terry Francona, who was a perfect 5 for 5 (all singles) on the day. With a 2-0 count "Tito" lined a single to center to score Speier and White for the walk off 11-10 Montreal win.
Game 2 saw the Cubbies exact some revenge via some late inning heroics. Tied 2-2 and heading to extras the Cubs were riding the hot hand of Randy Martz, who finished 9, but was looking at a no-decision after Bob Molinaro was summoned to pinch hit for him in the top of the 10th. Montreal had Ray Burris, who threw 2 scoreless innings to this point, on the hill. Burris quickly got Bowa to ground out to 2nd and the aforementioned Molinaro to fly out to the Hawk in deep center. That's when Chicago's fireworks began to go off. Wills beat out a slow roller and Ryno singled to put runners on the corners. Billy Buck worked out a walk to load the bases and Leon "the Bull" Durham launched a tape measure grand slam. Bill Campbell came on board to set the 'Spos down in the bottom of the 10th for the save. Martz, appropriately, got the "W".
The finale was over before it really got underway. Montreal dropped a 5 spot on Tom Filer in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The Cubbies managed to score 4 runs off of Steve Rogers in the 6th, but were still doubled up 8-4 as Rogers went the distnace to bump his record to 8-3 (2.31).

Brewers Lead AL East with 3 of 4 Wins over Baltimore
Going into a four game home stretch against the Baltimore Orioles the Milwaukee Brewers faced some bleak odds. An 11-11 record at home seemed a
bit odd for the AL East leading Brewers but manager Harvey Kuenn still had an optimistic mind set that his team would make County Stadium a friendly confine yet. And his team responded, taking 3 of 4 from their division rivals. The Brewers outscored the Orioles 20-12 in the 4 game stint and increased their league leading batting average to .304 on the season. The 3 wins improve Milwaukee to 34-21 on the season and continue to lead the AL East Division. The losses drop Baltimore to 29-26 on the season. Kuenn was asked by a reporter what he did to turn around his team at home, he responded, "All I do is write their names on the lineup card and let them play. It’s not a tough job. I haven’t misspelled one name yet." Guess that sums it up.

"Winning Ugly" is all in the perspective
May 17, 1982
CHICAGO -- In 1983 Texas Ranger manager Doug Rader accused the White Sox of "Winning Ugly," which became their slogan for the rest of the year. Well, this game was as pretty as a one-sided game can get as the White Sox dominated in every phase of the game in an 8-0 blanking of Texas. Dennis Lamp (2-3) fired a complete-game, 4 hitter. Six different White Sox batters had 2 hits apiece in a 14-hit attack. Steve Kemp made the most of his with 3 RBI.
May 18, 1982
CHICAGO -- This was a pretty 2-1 win for Texas. Doc Medich (2-2) started and went 6 innings. Paul Mirabella had a 2-inning hold. Steve Comer (2) nailed the save with a 1-2-3 9th. Jim Sundberg led the offense with 3 hits. Larry Parrish had 2 knocks and 2 RBI. LaMarr Hoyt (3-2) started and lost for the Pale Hose, but pitched very well.
May 19, 1982
CHICAGO -- Ok. This one was ugly. The White Sox committed 4 errors, including 2 in a 4-run 9th inning for Texas to allow them to win 5-3. All 4 runs off Kevin Hickey (2-2) in the 9th were unearned, but he was atrocious, yielding 3 hits and a walk and recorded just 2 outs. Manager Bruce Thomas was also atrocious for leaving him in that long. Danny Darwin (4-1) got the win in relief for the Rangers with 3 strong IP. Bill Stein singled in a pair that proved to be the game winners in the 9th.
