ChiSox get Twin wins in series with Minnesota

June 21, 1982
CHICAGO -- Ron Washington (3 hits) and Gary Gaetti (3 hits) were wishing like Ernie Banks to "play two" on this longest day of the year. Washington drove in 3 runs and Gaetti scored 3 runs in a 6-3 Minnesota victory. Five other Twins hitters had 2 hits apiece in a 16-hit attack. Albert Williams (8-3) was the beneficiary of the offense, earning the pitching win with 6 IP. Britt Burns (7-5) took the loss for Chicago. Harold Baines (7) had 3 hits in the loss, including a solo home run.

CHICAGO -- Ron Leflore (3H, 3RBI) and Bill Almon (3H) and the rest of the Sox lineup shelled Frank Viola (1-3) for 8 runs in the first 4 innings. It could have been worse as twice they left the bases loaded. Steve Trout (5-9) was looking unbeatable on the hill for the Pale Hose, but he tired. The Twins clobbered Salome Barojas for 4 runs in the 7th, including a 3-run bomb from Ron Washington (3). In B8th, the ChiSox added 2 more on a 2-run single from Leflore to make the final 10-6. Kevin Hickey closed out the 9th.

CHICAGO -- Dennis Lamp (4-5) gave up just 4 hits and 1 run in 7.2 IP. Chico Escarrega (2) finished up a 3-1 White Sox winner. Carlton Fisk led the offense with 2 RBI.
