Reds take 2 of 3 from the Dodgers

September 11, 1981:    George Foster's three run shot in the seventh extended the Reds lead to what would proved to be the final score, 7-2.  Mario Soto (8-7) went seven innings to pick up the win.  Jerry Reuss (5-10) suffered the setback.


September 12, 1981:  Dodgers strike first with four runs in the top of the first.  Reds battle back with two in the first, one in the third and fourth and two more in the fifth and seventh to go on to the 8-5 win.  Youngster Paul Householder banged out three hits, scoring one and driving in another.  Foster hit his 25th homer and Oester added his fourth.  Seaver (10-7) benefited from the Cincinnati offense as he allowed five runs in six innings.  Fernando (9-9) took the loss.


September 13, 1981:  Dodgers score three in the third and add a run in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.  Reds cut it to 4-2 but that was as close as they got as L.A. added a run in the fifth for the 5-2 win to avoid the sweep.  Rick Monday had two hits including a two run homer for the Dodgers.  Bob Welch (11-3) picked up the win while Frank Pastore fell to 7-4 with the loss.
