ChiSox Stay Ahead of A's with Pair of Ws at Comiskey

September 18, 1981
CHICAGO -- Steve McCatty (12-6) had the White Sox completed frustrated for the full 9 innings as Oakland won the opener of this crucial series, 4-1. Dave McKay (4) opened the 4th with a 4-14-foot bomb off Steve Trout (8-5). It opened the flood gates for a Rickey Henderson (3 hits) triple, an RBI single from Dwayne Murphy, and an RBI single from Mickey Klutts (3 hits).

September 19, 1981
CHICAGO -- Dennis Lamp (8-1) responded with a complete-game of his own as the Pale Hose come back with a 3-2 victory.  Jim Morrison, Harold Baines and Jim Essian had RBI hits respectively, in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. Tony Armas (35) blasted a 2-run homer in the 7th for the Athletics runs.

September 20, 1981
CHICAGO -- As intense as you would want a rubber match to be when a Division title is on the line. . . and extra innings to boot. However, the White Sox emerged 4-3 victors when Ron Leflore lifted a single to RCF scoring Mike Squires with the walk-off run in the 11th making a winner of Lamarr Hoyt (6-3) in relief. Chicago led 3-2 heading into the 9th, but Klutts (5) took Kevin Hickey deep to tie it at 3-3.
