Reds and Mets Split a pair

Game 1,
Mazzilli scored winning run.

Cincinnati blew a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning when John Sterns doubled to right and scored on a one out Elliott Maddux single. That knotted the game at one apiece.  New York put the game away in the eleventh. Lee Mazzilli led off the inning with a line drive hit between first and second. He promptly stole second, went to third on the throw to second base. He scored on a groundout to first. Cincinnati did nothing the in bottom half of the inning when Neil Allen retired the Red batters in succession. Allen recorded his 5th save as the victory went to Ed Gynn (1-1). The loss was hung on Tom Hume (0-3).....Mets 2...Reds 1 in 11 innings.

Game 2,

Driessen smacks 3-run bomb.
Dan Driessen hit a 3-run homerun during a 5 run Red 5th inning.  Cincinnati coasted to an easy victory as crafty lefty, Charlie Leibrandt went the distance to record his 4th win on the year to improve to 4-3. The loss went to Craig Swann (2-4). Reds 7....Mets 1.
