White Sox - Tigers Split Hairs (Fur?)

June 20, 1970 at Chicago – Chet Lemon’s 2-run double in the 1st held up in a 2-1 White Sox win in the opener. Britt Burns (5-6) and Ed Farmer (10) tag-teamed on the mound for the Sox. Dan Petry (3-3) was the hard-luck loser.

June 21, 1970 at Chicago – Milt Wilcox (5-7) went the distance in a 6-2 Tigers win to even the series. Champ Summers (4) had two of his three hits stay in the yard. He drove in 3.

June 22, 1970 (Game #1) at Chicago – Mike Squires’ sac fly in the B11th plated Junior Moore for a walk-off 7-6 White Sox come-from-behind winner. Detroit led 6-1 before the Pale Hose notched 4 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to tie it. Lamar Johnson’s (7) 3-run bomb highlighted the 8th. The biggest story though was Lamarr Hoyt’s (1-0) 5 shut out IP in relief. He gave up just 1 hit, walked none and K’d 4.

June 22, 1970 (Game #2) at Chicago – Lance Parrish (7) drove in 3 of the 4 runs for the Bengals as they earn the split in the DH and the series with a 4-3 victory. Jack Morris (7-4) grabbed the win with “Senior Smoke” Aurelio Lopez (10) going 2 1/3 for the save.
