Reds Take down Giants

Cincinnati, Riverfront Stadium,

Game 1,

Darrell Evans busted two round trippers to lead the Giants in a come from behind victory against the Cincinnati Reds.  The giants posted one run in the eighth and 2 in the ninth to erase a Red 3-1 lead. Paul Moskau was doing a fin job mowing down Giant batters but they got to him late.  The Giant surge came during the eighth when Evans smacked a homerun to right.  The following inning When Rennie Stennett and Milt May led off with hits.  Both runners moved up when Johnny LeMaster hit a slow grounder to third.  Strain drove in one run with a groundout and the other Giant scored on a sacrifice fly by Billy North.  Hume got the loss in relief while the victory went to Bob Knepper. The save went to Greg Minton. Giants 4...Reds 3.

Game 2,

The Reds earned their first win of the year after going 0-5 with a big win.  Johnny Bench led the way with 3 hits and 4 RBI including two homeruns. Ray Knight added another dinger to make matters more secure for the Red legs.  Tom Seaver earned his first win of the season as he pitched seven innings surrendering 3 runs. Giant starter Ed Whitson got the loss. Reds 9...Giants 3.

Game 3,

Mike LaCoss pitched a strong game for the Reds as he completed 8 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.  Cincinnati scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning and another in the third.  Collins drove in a run in the 2nd and a homerun by first baseman Dan Driessen added more in the 3rd. Hume was strong but needed support in the ninth as Tom Hume nailed down his first save of the season.  The Count Montefusco got tagged for loss. Reds 3...Giants 2.
