Chicago – Claudell Washington (1) didn’t just cook the Goose (Gossage,
0-1), he burnt him with a 2-out, 2-run bottom of the 9th blast
lifting the White Sox to an unlikely 4-3 win.

Chicago – Moral of the story . . . don’t mess with the Bronx Goose. To say the least, the Yankees
took exception to what they felt was excessive celebration at Comiskey Park the
night before. The Bombers lit up the scoreboard with 16 runs in the first 3
innings on their way to an 18-4 demolition. Reggie Jackson (2,3) hit 3-run bombs in the 1st and 2nd
innings. Dennis Werth also went yard
with 2 men on in the 2nd as the Yanks hung a 9 on the board. Bob Watson went 6 for 7 driving in 3
runs with 5 singles and a two-bagger. Tommy
John (1-1) went the distance on the hill for the Yankees.

Chicago – Bob Watson and Reggie
Jackson again provided the offense and this time Goose (2) closed it out in style. Watson doubled in two in the 3rd and Reggie (4) again exploded a 3-run bomb
as the Yanks got all the runs they needed in the 3rd for a 5-3 win
on getaway day. Gossage gave up just
1 hit and fanned 5 in 2 IP, including revenge on Washington.
