Houston Moves to 6-0 with Wins over Atlanta

The Braves come to Houston with both teams sporting 4-0 records to start the season. Houston wins both to stretch its streak to six games.

Game 1: Hou 5, ATL 1

J.R. Richard (2-0) throws his second straight game with 12 strikeouts as Houston wins it. The Astros score three early runs off Doyle Alexander (0-1). Catcher Alan Ashby knocks in two with RBI singles to raise his batting average to .429.

Game 2: Hou 2, ATL 1 (11 innings)

Atlanta's Larry McWilliams only gives up three hits and one run in seven innings and leaves with a 1-0 lead on Bob Horner's fifth homer. But Joe Niekro is equally stingy for Houston, and the Astros scratch a run in the bottom of the eighth on an Art Howe double off the wall. In the 11th, the Astros's newly reacquired Joe Morgan wins it with a double, a steal of third and a sac fly from Jose Cruz off Tommy Boggs (0-1). Joe Sambito (1-0) gets the win.
